It is part of the Social Campaign that Pegaprint is carrying out in its first stage. Considering that the material generated during medical care services or household waste that contains biological-infectious agents can cause harmful effects on health and the environment. Today more than ever in this time of the COVID-19 Pandemic were preserving care in the handling of waste is of vital importance.

Through the donation of “self-adhesive labels” for labeling and classification of Bio infectious waste and an erratic warning message ¡DANGER! “Bio infectious Waste” anticipates the person to maintain the proper measures in the handling of this waste.

In addition, it is intended to raise awareness about the classification of these wastes in order to protect people’s health from any danger in the processes of collection, handling, storage, transport, treatment or disposal of these wastes.

Considering that the classification is the fundamental part in the management of HBIW (Hazardous Biological Infectious Waste), to avoid risks to health and damage to the environment, which leads to a better management of resources, thus reducing operating expenses. Therefore, the HBIW must be identified to be separated and packaged, according to their infectious physical and biological characteristics, immediately after their generation, that is, in the same place where they originate and by the sanitary or cleaning personnel.

The scope of this campaign is nationwide in the main cities and centers with the greatest influx that are used to receive medical assistance, including: Atlántida Hospital (CEIBA), IHSS of San Pedro Sula, Mario Catarino Rivas Hospital, Leonardo Martínez Hospital, IHSS Tegucigalpa, San Felipe Hospital, María Hospital, Escuela Hospital, Private Doctors, Nursing Staff and Cleaning Staff among others. Considering the need and the good acceptance of this social initiative, a second stage of donation of labels will be carried out soon, visiting more healthcare centers in other cities of the country.

We leave you some practical advice when collecting and classifying Bio infectious waste:

IMPORTANT:

• Bags must be closed with a secure tie-down mechanism that prevents debris from escaping (knot or adhesive tape).
• Collection bags should not be filled more than 80% of their capacity.
• Have personal protective equipment for the mini-handling of these wastes.
• Once packaged, the bags should not be compressed.
• The common garbage will be placed in cans or plastic bags of any color except red or yellow.
• To prevent HBIW from mixing with common garbage, a site should be established for the temporary storage of HBIW, which should be stored in containers with a lid and remain closed at all times.
• The storage area must be clearly marked and the containers clearly identified, according to the type of waste it contains.

Biological-Infectious Hazardous Waste can represent a health risk for the population outside and inside health institutions, so it is necessary to learn about their proper management, as well as the risks to which they may be exposed.
